Like everything else, opinions about fair and unfair methods in global business are sharply polarised. This Thursday at my next free East-West Leadership webinar, we will discuss a timely example: “China speed”.
Even if you never do business with China (and never want to), you must have noticed a general trend towards speed and flexibility (call it “agility” if you like leadership lingo) in nearly all sectors, including traditionally perfectionist ones like chemicals, engineering and high-end design. You must also have noticed how China is gaining ground in most of these sectors. Where it isn’t China, it’s another upstart from “the global south” like India or Indonesia.
How do they do it? Are they cheating?
On Thursday between 11am and 12pm Berlin time and 5pm and 6pm Beijing time, we will look at examples where “China speed” is based on unfair advantage: an instant supply of “Trump assassination T-shirts” is a good example. Other examples provide grey areas, including Chinese electric vehicles meant for the EU market. But there are examples, and I think these are the most important ones, where “China speed” beats its G7 competitors fair and square.
